It was scheduled to star in Hulu’s The Girl From Plainville, which will bring his tale — known as the texting-suicide case — back into the spotlight.
Roy’s mother, told People lately that she hasn’t watched the limited series but is concerned about its focus on her late son’s then-17-year-old lover Michelle Carter.
“There might be an attempt to justify some of [Carter’s] pointless and immoral deeds,” said St. Denis, who is played by Chloe Sevigny.
Carter was charged with involuntary manslaughter after Roy’s death, reportedly urging Roy to commit suicide in thousands of text messages and phone calls, including one in which she told the 18-year-old to go forward with his plan after he became terrified and wanted to back out.
At Carter’s 2017 trial, both St. Denis and her ex-husband, Roy Jr., who divorced when their son was approximately 16, testified.
Carter had “exploited [his] son’s flaws and used him as a pawn” for her own objectives, Roy Jr. said.
Carter was eventually found guilty and sentenced to 15 months in jail. She did, however, only spend 12 months before being released on good behaviour from the Bristol County prison in January 2020.
